goodbye, new york

i can't believe i've already been here for 2 weeks and it's time to go back to LA again. new york was fun... it reminds me of london, and people are surprisingly friendly here.

A quick rundown of my visit
The first weekend was CMJ...it was kind of a mini SXSW...watch bands, hang with hipsters and drink free booze.

The 1st week we saw "Strawberry Fields", an aging Beatles tribute band playing at BB Kings, a jazz club in Times Square. It was OK, other than being sandwiched at a tiny table between 2 older couples, one of whom wouldn't stop complaining about how squished everyone was. We went to an Improv Comedy Show with Sarah's roommate and to the Banksy "pet store". Kristen also took me on an after-hours tour of the UN. I sat at Ireland, since I represented them in Model UN.

The 2nd weekend was Halloween (I was a zombie, sarah was a daisy...pushing up daisies...haha, get it?), and a houseparty in Williamsburg, where we could go out onto the roof and get a great view of the city.

On Saturday we went to another rooftop party (it was freezing!) to watch more bands, and then met up with some guys that I know from London.

Hmmm, what else... Tuesday was election night. We met Amity for drinks and dinner and then watched the results at a bar in the Lower East Side. It was exciting... the whole bar was excited and cheering, and people were partying in the streets.

Now I'm killing time until I have to make the journey to the airport. It's cold and windy outside. A good day to go back to LA.

i got a new (borrowed) phone that takes decent pics.

attack of the snails in culver city

The Queen Mary in Long Beach, where I'm currently working many hours on a reality TV show. Although far away, it's a cool location, and almost fun at times. I don't know how Sarah does it. I could never ever ever be a production coordinator.

I try to work with art department whenever I can. I helped hang these flags. I know...super exciting.

I went to Detour Music Festival in downtown LA. There was a rave on the steps of city hall.

this would have been easier with a mouse

A friend asked me if i'd be interested in taking a stab at designing an album cover for her punk band's holiday song. I'm not sure I like this, my first attempt.... but it's what I'm doing since I'm not working, and since you're reading this, you must want to know what I'm doing---

labor day? if only i labored....

this morning i woke up early, ignored the cloudy sky and drove to manhattan beach. it was great... no traffic, empty beach, and tons of surfers to watch. slowly the clouds disappeared, the sun came out, and every time i opened my eyes, there were more people, until the beach was finally as crowded as I expected it to be on a holiday... by then we were ready to go. So again no traffic, and except for missing my exit, and adding 15 minutes to the drive, everything was perfect. Except for my skin, which is slightly pinker than I intended.

the rest of the weekend was pretty good too, with lots of reminders of Oklahoma. On Friday I went to a party and met a guy from OKC, who knew tons of people I knew. On Saturday, our new roommate started moving in. Turns out his girlfriend went to OU and lived in Norman for a long time... we also had lots of mutual friends.

yesterday, in honor of last year's labor day, when me and stephanie cooked out on a miniature disposal grill in the back garden of harley grove, and then sat outside playing uke, I lit up the miniature grill sarah and I bought last spring and grilled up some hotdogs. i didn't attempt anything more difficult since the last time we used the grill, our steaks tasted like lighter fluid. The hotdogs were great.... I ate 3. After my private BBQ I went to another party, and met a couple guys who play uke, and we agreed that we would make time for a uke jam soon. i need to start practicing more so that i can actually play, and not just strum a chord or 2.

8 months later

I finally managed to finish my video of the trip to Iceland that Stephanie and I took last year. This is a small sample of the photos and videos that we took.

The music is Sigur Ros - the only Icelandic band (other than Bjork) that I know of. I recommend watching it with headphones or good speakers.

I apologize in advance for our shaky, poor quality video, and for the cheesiness of the whole thing!

The Circus, Joey Fatone, and me

Thanks to Stephanie for the picture. Since the first episode, I've been promoted to Assistant Story Editor (or something like that)...
